TODDLER PROGRAM

2-3 Years

Our Toddler program is for children from 2-3 years of age.  Children must be 2 to enter but advancement to preschool is based on the individual child's readiness.  Some children are ready as early as 2 years 9 months and some are not ready until after the age of 3.  Readiness is based on: toilet-training, verbal and listening skills, self-feeding, and general physical readiness for the Montessori environment. Teachers and parents will observe for readiness and communicate as the child matures.

The Toddler program prepares children for the Montessori preschool classroom.  Children participate in group and independent activities.  The day is filled with music, stories, group and independent lessons and engagement in hands-on tasks.  The age of 2-3 years is time for learning to share, be a friend and “figure things out!”  The toddler classroom consists of developmental materials such as water/sensory tables, dress-up and art as well as introductory Montessori Practical Life and Sensorial materials.

At Mission Montessori our day is grounded by a structure of consistent routines and expectations which serve to facilitate the child’s basic sense of trust in the world. Within this context, each child gains a sense of himself as an individual while learning to negotiate socially.
